The various faces of powerlessness

Moore's premise: "powerlessness is the cultural inheritance of women." Her book is clearly written and didactic. It discusses the psychological consequences of the cultural "inheritance": individual development of a pseudo self, codependence, and addictions. Didactic as well are the exercises intended to increase awareness and begin to reverse this malignant process.
I recommend this book for women, the group for which it was specifically written. As a psychotherapist, I also recommend it for men who, despite cultural forces (outside of the family) being in their favor, have developed similar patterns of powerlessness as a result of complex family dynamics.
This reading reminded me that the historical strides for women's empowerment have not necessarily changed the culture. It also led me to reflect about the noxious cultural pressures that affect us all. We, as a society, are not aware of how we are increasingly giving up personal control of our lives to political and marketing manipulations, thus, becoming increasingly more outer directed and less inner-directed.

Growing my self and my business with Power

I first read Dr. Linda Moore's book in 1998 when I began my company the in basement of my home.
I had been successful in sales and marketing in the hospitality industry...but I was struggling
with doing it for myself and selling my company and our services.
This book was the beginning of my growth as a woman and learning to own my POWER.
I highly recommend this book to any one...woman or man... that are lookiing to identify
issues that are holding them back and want more POWER to blast themselves to the next level.
Even men that realize the potential of women in their business and want to develop them as leaders
within their organizations.

A true release

I read the first edition of Dr. Moore's book multiple times. I had the privilege and good fortune to be guided by Dr. Moore for a short time in the early 2000s and her influence on me has been lasting. I look forward to delving into the updated edition of her book. As a college professor who teaches courses in organizational communication and leadership, I've often wished to teach a course for women on these issues with this book as our text and jumping off point for discussion. Thank you, Linda, for never ceasing and always evolving in your approach to these critical issues.
