The gold standard in repair manuals

If you already own the Chilton's guide, buy this. If you don't, buy this instead. They're both good by themselves, but the Haynes one seems to cover a bit more and explain it a bit better. Additionally, the Haynes one covers the Legacy specifically, while the Chilton guide tries to cover the entire Subaru range for those years, making it a bit more complicated to deal with if you don't want to wade through Justy and SVX-specific stuff. The only things the manual could have used were more detailed info about bodywork (though the dent repair guide is pretty great for only two pages) and the ECU, though I know both of those things changed a lot between '90 and '99, so I don't really hold that against Haynes much.

Great solid manual

Armed with this manual, you can do just about anything to your car. I used the manual mostly for technical specifications when removing the engine and replacing the head gasket, clutch, and a bunch of seals. Amazon (or ups) screwed up and sent it to the wrong address but it wasn't the manual's fault. Haynes is usually easier to follow than Chiltons in my experience.

With both the Haynes manual and the helpful forums on the internet...you can tackle even the biggest jobs as long as you take your time and read the instructions. Labeling wires and bagging bolts will help you put everything back together. Good luck!

Awesome manual. Arrive on time.

I think that with every car purchase from the dealer should come with one of these at least haha.

Easy to read, just not friendly to navigate through due to it's back and forth illustrations and certain job. Other than that it does cover everything that any garage mechanic needs.

Good actor piece for all characters.

If you're looking for a play to work on, this is a great for a few reasons. First of all, all three of the main characters ( 2M, 1F) have great material. Second, it's new enough that you haven't seen it done a million times. Third, it raises all kinds of moral questions, but it doesn't seem to be pushing an agenda.

I'm also a big fan of stories that address serious or dark material without losing lightness. This is FUNNY, even when it's going heavy.

Also, even though the characters are written as 30's, I think it would work for 22-early 40's.

A Good Play... But Depressing

I read this cover-to-cover on a plane ride back home. I'm currently looking for future shows to direct for a little theatre that I am working with. I wouldn't rule this one out. It is very funny in places. However, the subject matter is a bit "blue". I thought the playwright did a good job with the characters, but not a very good job with the clarity of what is really being said. It's one of those plays you really need to read at least twice. If you are an atheist or agnostic thespian, this play may appeal to you.

What a beautifully-written and timely play. Craig Wright writes about things our country is presently struggling with - religion, faith, scams, science, gun violence, environmental factors - and yet the play also feels universal. I plan to read more of his work after this.

Great resource.

Great day-by-day record of the war. Entries broken down by area (e.g., Verdun, Mesopotamia, German East Africa), includes both political and military events, though the former is by far in the minority (and arguably too light in this area). Several illustrations and photographs throughout, which I don't think add much, but are welcome, as they are not the usual US-British-French-German-centric fare of pictorial histories. Several "topics" are covered on pages scattered throughout discussing certain major themes (e.g. infantry tactics) or innovations (e.g., tanks, aircraft). Mostly very general, but brief and concise; helpful to the general reader--and a reminder to the well-versed of the period-- to understand the war machinery of the conflict.
My only gripe is that the maps are mostly useless, as the events detailed in the almanac occur at a much smaller scale than those included. A companion atlas or appendix with detailed maps would help a great deal towards following the events, especially in more remote locals, such as Africa and Middle East.

Basic, not at all complete

Emphasis is on the military chronology, not the political or social history of the event that "created" the twentieth century. Starting with William Manchester's weak introduction, Burg and Purcell provide an almost daily account of events on the Western Front, with much less attention paid to other theaters. The maps are old, and completely inadequate for their purpose. The biographies are somewhat useful, but are only a glimmering of the promise that the book could have held. A basic reference work, little more.

Suited My Purposes Perfectly

This book suited my purposes perfectly. I am a high school math teacher and a long-time history buff. I was looking for a day-by-day chronicle of the events of the First World War to share with my math classes as the events' centennial observance comes upon us. (I honestly think I can give them a better overview than they will get in their history classes.) The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that I am an uncritical reviewer and have not read the entire book at this point.

Review from someone who is bad at math:
By Newly declared MATH NERD!
I have never been a strong math student; I have always had trouble making sense of numbers and received a D in my spring 2015 stats course.
I have always used my textbook for math classes to copy down the problem and attempt to make the answer match the one in the back, praying that the homework only consisted of odd numbered problems because they were the only answers provided. Straightforward Statistics is written unlike any math textbook I have ever used.
This textbook allowed me to conceptualize the statistical concepts we learned by providing relevant example problems and very clearly breaking down the different procedures introduced in each chapter.
Each chapter thoroughly covers a concept or statistical test in a way that breaks down to WHY you would use it as well as how to do so. The beginning of each chapter clearly states what the reader is expected to gain from it. Throughout the chapter are “pop quizzes” and awesome note bubbles that point out: things to focus on, the author’s insights on a certain procedure, and hints on how to look at problems differently. The end of the chapter provides: a concise recap of the method learned (written in a way that someone with ZERO stats experience could totally grasp), a list of key terms and definitions and a learning assessment with a variety of problems to test your understanding.
I have never before had any reason to enjoy reading a math book, nor have I ever felt the need to write a review of one. This book reads like a narrative, not an endless list of equations to memorize. After using this textbook in my inferential statistics course I was shocked to discover that I not only understood the material, but I absolutely loved learning about it. I finished my fall 2015 semester with a solid B in statistics (and it COULD have been an A if I had managed my time properly on our first exam!).
I am currently in my final semester of my undergraduate degree. My major is psychology. My initial graduate and professional plans/goals focused mainly on studying behavior and learning and expanding upon different psychological theories. After learning to view statistics with the same enthusiasm and love as the author so obviously does, I was forced to allow myself to consider a previously unattainable education route that focuses intensely on analyzing data. Fields such as quantitative psychology and applied behavioral statistics are now in my radar.
I always assumed that only those with a genius IQ ever actually enjoyed playing with math, though now I find myself (previously considered BAD at math....) super excited to apply the statistical tests that I learned in this book to various data that I encounter. I am now able to take a seemingly random group of numbers and be confident in my ability to make them mean something; AND completely understand what my results mean and why a specific test is used.
I never expected keep a math textbook on my desk and refer to it regularly, sometimes just for fun, to see what the numbers "look like"! I have also never wanted to write over 500 words on how AWESOME I think my math text is. This book allowed me to develop a confidence that I thought was lost in my previous battle with numbers.
I am still baffled by how excited I am about statistics. Straightforward Statistics is truly the best textbook I have used for any type of course. I whole-heartedly recommend this book to any and all that are dreading taking a stats course. This book allowed me to broaden my educational interests and for that I am thankful.

I selected this book for my students because I liked the explanations and felt it covered more than traditional textbooks (for example, it teaches t-tests for when equal variances are not assumed). I was disappointed in the ANOVA chapter because it does not describe repeated measures or two-factor ANOVA. I already had materials and slides for this and felt this flaw was not enough to select another book. Given how reasonably priced this textbook is, I feel comfortable knowing I am not placing an excessive financial burden on my students. All around, a solid textbook. The two primary criticisms I have are: The ANOVA chapter feels incomplete, and much to my surprise, the student edition has all the answers in the back (not just odd questions). This makes the book less practical for assigning homework from but better for students who wish to get extra practice.

This is an excellent book on Lean. It is certainly one of the top two books that I have read about Lean. It has a lot of very helpful information on how to do Lean in a healthcare setting. If you plan to do Lean, you need this book.
