I loved it

I read this book years ago in middle school. I am now a Junior in college, and the fact that I'm at this page looking over this book says how much i loved it. I read the books in order and was just amazed. They were perfect and they made me want my life to be just like that. I would greatly recommend this book and Volume one to ANYONE (but mainly girls) ages 12-16. That seems to be the age that would find this the most interesting, since others are trying to grow up too fast.

The romance and excitement between Annie and Strat was wonderful. It made you laugh and cry, which is a testament tot he quality of the story. You always wanted to know what was going to happen next, and it was all very exciting!

I loved this book!

I don't usually review books, but after seeing that bad review that some have given this, I just have to. I think that this book was great, and I really had a hard time putting it down. I highly recommend that you read Volume #1 first (especialy the first book), or you might be lost in Volume #2. Maybe that is why some people didn't like it as much. If another book in this series is published, I will be one of the first in line to get it!

Fun slide thru time

I read Vol. 1 and wasn't impressed - but if you read 1 then you feel compelled to read 2 - and I was impressed. This is a fun read and if you ignore all the obvious loose ends and just enjoy sliding through time with Annie and Strat you will find yourself at the end of the book wishing for more. Buy - it's time well spent.

Marian K. Kazimierczuk is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Wright State University’s Department of Electrical Engineering. He has taught graduate courses in high-frequency electronics for 30 years and his research interests include: RF power amplifiers, power electronics, high-frequency magnetics and renewable energy sources. He has published 6 books, over 160 journal papers and over 200 conference papers. Marian K. Kazimierczuk also holds seven patents, is an IEEE Fellow and serves as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems and International Journal of Circuit Theory and Applications.

Excellent!

This is a book and CD. The book explains some of the key elements and benefits of deep relaxation, and the 30 minute CD provides an excellent way of achieving this state of inner peace.

This CD has got to be one of the best guided meditation CDs available. Dr. Weiss uses imagery that is easy and natural to invoke, he has a soothing enough voice, and Steve Halpern's music is perfect.

A quick comparison with two highly rated similar products: Deepak Chopra provides a good CD, "The Soul of Healing Meditations", but it leaves you your own for several minutes at a time (with just the music sound track) and therefore doesn't help you stay "guided" and focused. There's a highly rated CD by Bodhipaksa, "Guided Meditations", which is also good, but there is no music to keep the mind flowing along (the CD is voice only), and the imagery is not as easy or natural to invoke as that of Dr. Weiss.

"Eliminating Stress, Finding Inner Peace" is the third such work from Dr. Weiss, and is the best of the three. The two previous works ("Meditation" and "Regression") last 20 minutes each, which I find a better length of time, but unfortunately Dr. Weiss uses an echo effect for his voice that doesn't quite fit, and the music is not the same quality. These days I use "Meditation" once in while for a change.

Dr. Weiss is a graduate of Yale Medical School, and former Chairman of Psychiatry at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami. He spent many years developing successful treatment protocols that include guided meditation. (I should mention that he successfully pioneered the use of past life regression as a treatment modality. Some people find this disagreeable, however, even if you're one of these folks, don't let it stop you from acquiring "Eliminating Stress, Finding Inner Peace" which stands entirely on its own merits as an excellent guided meditation.)

Calming Relaxation

The CD included with this book is well done by Brian Weiss. One of the best of its kind. His voice is clear and soothing to help guide you into a relaxing state of mind and body to help you eliminate everyday stress. Extremely helpful if one encounters difficulty getting to sleep.

A useful tool in the battle against stress

I found that while the book that accompanies the CD is a little simplistic for my needs it may be helpful to people whose understanding of the various conditions applying to stress and anxiety is minimal and it is well laid out but the real value of this product lies in the meditation CD which I use daily in addition to my medication to help control panic disorder which started only a few months ago. I can confirm that it has made considerable difference to my wellbeing and I have monitored improvements in my blood pressure. I recommend its consistent use as an aid to anyone troubled with stress or anxiety problems.

Creative, Funny, Insightful Look at Biblical Leadership

For his first book, Lepine tackles a tough topic almost as easily as Tiger Woods' first weekend at Augusta. With heavy doses of humor and an appropriate number of real-life stories, this life long broadcaster makes his point effectively: for a man to be successful in God's eyes as a husband, he must be a corageous leader spiritually and organizationally in the home.
Other books on manhood that I've read--Tender Warrior, The Masculine Journey, etc.--cover all of the male struggle. Lepine's book actually sticks to what it means to be a husband. I appreciate the focus.
His standards are high--calling to mind John Calvin is a tall order. I appreciate his honesty and the personal stories--Lepine is real, not made up.
My favorite aspect of the book is how Lepine moves from umbrella principle, to biblical support, to illustration, to (finally) personal application. He doesn't insult my intelligence with his application points; he calls me up short. I'm glad there's comic relief amid the moans.
If there's a weak point to the book (other than the dreadful cover), it's the section on the husband as "prophet." I have trouble connecting with the principle.
I've run across a somewhat self-published study guide as well.

Solve problems together: Ensure that every member of your team is present during brainstorming for new projects. Give your teams problems to solve, not solutions to implement. The outcome will be a far more efficient and productive team creating higher quality products and experiences.

Mostly redundant

If you are a:
UX person AND have read Lean Startup - skip this book. It will be largely redundant.

UX person and haven't read Lean Startup - Read Lean Startup instead. How to apply UX should be a fairly obvious extension of Eric's ideas.

Not a UX person but are interested in learning about Lean UX - by all means, this is a good start to appreciate what is needed.

Unfortunately, I found most of the ideas very much surface thinking. I am sure these guys made a conscious choice to stay at the surface to appeal to a wider audience, but I wanted deeper understanding of the tradeoffs and obstacles companies will face.

Also, I thought their Design Studio concept a pretty average representation of one way to design/innovate. 10 minutes to sketch out six ideas on the spot? There are a lot of ways to generate diverge/converge cycles of ideation and just throwing one out there made it feel as if this was the Lean way.

A least they captured their ideas in a book that could be read in one sitting.

Perhaps a quick read, but there's plenty here to implement

I'm a technical writer who has often been involved with UX, and both writing and UX are often left out of the scrum team when product development departments move to Agile, so I was glad to see how these authors addressed the UX component. They present ideas, answer questions, and address concerns that UX designers and other team members will probably have when trying to fit UX into sprints that already seem too short.

Several other reviewers have commented that this is a relatively thin book, and therefore it's a quick read, but A does not necessarily follow B here. Make it a quick read if you like, but I think you'll only get out of it what you put into it. Even if it is a "quick read," it's not a "quick implement." Several of the ideas put forth are major changes from waterfall development and the way that designers have traditionally worked, and it will take some time and a few false starts before a team finds their comfort zone with this. You should find yourself referring back to the book frequently as you switch over.

The authors say that Lean UX is a mindset, and they support that position with a chapter that describes Lean UX principles. Unfortunately, they list 3 foundations and 15 "key principles" that are "critical to the success of Lean UX." They seem to have forgotten one basic design principle, which is that people can't remember more than a few things from a list, perhaps 7 at the most. It's just not possible to focus on 15 principles at the same time and try to make sure that your processes reflect all of them. Some of these principles are high level (such as "Progress = Outcomes, not Output") and others are the result of, or an aspect of applying those, such as "Removing Waste." While all the principles are valuable, that chapter could have been reworked somewhat.

Is it redundant of the "Lean Startup?" I see it as a focused drill-down on how Lean Startup looks in one discipline, so I think it's a valuable addition. Definitely, though, don't try to bring in Lean Startup principles by starting with Lean UX if your company isn't already doing Lean Startup, or moving towards it.

After having read Lean Startup by Eric Ries, Lean UX falls short of expectations. There are some good use cases and more concrete ways on how to implement some practices that are just theoretically explained in Lean Startup. All in all that book was just ok.

It has highlights in it and some of the pages are a little wrinkled, but none of them are missing and the highlights and student notes within the book are actually quite helpful so they don't bother me at all.
