SIMPLY THE BEST BOOK ON DAY TRADING.

This is simply the best guide to day trading out there.I have read two other day trading books and they were nowhere near as comprehensive, concise, and organized.

This guide is simple and straight to the point. No BS and no redundancy used to lengthen the book, but rather used tastefully to strengthen retention of core elements of the profitable strategy.

It was such an easy read that I sat down with a cup of coffee and finished the book at the same time I finished sipping at my mug.

Despite it being a quick-read, it was full of more information than other books I have read.

I will update this review with the success of this strategy, but I can tell you from my 2 years of experience in the stock market and knowledge acquired from other books that this guide is "on point."

UPDATE:

It has been a while since I made this review. I have personally used this strategy for a while now with great success. This strategy has worked for me. I have made more profit on trades with this strategy than losses and the profits were quite big on some days. I still highly recommend this guide.

Like most beginning traders

This book is pure genius, which I arbitrarily define as the author’s uncanny ability to find eminently workable ideas while searching for that elusive profit-making needle in the vast haystack called stock market trading. Like most beginning traders, I was afflicted with irrational exuberance when I first jumped into the world of day trading, buoyed by promises of untold wealth by the marketing hype that is prevalent in this medium. I read dozens of books, watched loads of videos, joined a paid chat room, subscribed to strategy-scanning services, thoroughly convinced that the quantity of material absorbed during the learning process would incrementally build up my portfolio.

Well, it hasn’t - not yet anyway. The core lesson I learned in reading this book was that the quantity and complexity of learning material absorbed has no direct bearing on one’s success in day trading. To the contrary, the inevitable clutter from having so many theories and studies and strategies in one’s head only causes one to be initially bewitched, then eventually bothered and bewildered, and leave one in a state of mental paralysis.

This book offers a refreshing change to that scenario. The trading methodology taught is so simple that most day traders, even the most jaded ones, would overlook it - yet it is right there in plain sight - stunning in its simplicity. I won’t give away the store, but the trading pattern being taught is very meticulously laid out in almost excruciating detail, minute-by-minute: do this, then that, after which do this, etc. , thus well-deserving of its descriptive title - the one-hour trade. It is mechanical to some degree, but it has built-in risk management features, which, when coupled with a healthy dose of common sense, will go a long way in enhancing your portfolio while preserving precious trading capital. Knowing when to enter and when to exit is the cornerstone of effective day trading, and this book tells you how to do exactly that. It goes with the caveat that precise timing is the key success factor in day trading, and once you develop that sense of timing by being in sync with the market, the techniques taught in this book will most assuredly enhance your chances of success. I eagerly look forward to reading the author’s next book in the series.

Simple strategy in a well-written book

I found this book when I was struggling with day trading momentum stocks, struggling particularly because I had trouble deciding on entries when something was moving quickly, judging whether momo would hold, etc. During that time (last fall), I purchased a number of "simple" trading books on Amazon. A lot, as other reviewers note, were pretty bad, but I think it's good to learn as much as you can about different approaches, indicators, styles of trading, setups, etc and see what works best for you, what makes sense. Brian's book was very helpful to me because it focuses on one setup and mastering that, which I think calmed me and helped me realize you could just focus on a few things instead of chasing or trying to chase what others follow in various chats (which I was not very good at). The only issue I had with the setup was that the broker I use doesn't have a scanner that fits the parameters for this setup so configuring that took some adjustments. I was in Brian's chat for a while, and he's very helpful, comments on things people are seeing in the market, group seems to be a good one. Another reviewer noted that not a lot of setups came up that fit the book, and I think that's probably true, but if you can find something that has high expectancy overall, you can still make a good bit of money trading it, and then add to your arsenal as you grow as a trader. The book is also written clearly and helpfully, not a lot of fluff. He also has charts online you can reference in connection with the book - those are helpful as well.

A Helpful and Balanced Booklet

I received this little book free from Reformation Heritage in exchange for a review. I was very excited to receive this book and I actually ended up reading almost all of it the evening I received it in the mail. It is with great wisdom that Murray made this book so practical and short in length, because as he said, "Depressed people cannot read hundreds of pages" (xi).

Though only 112 pages this book packs a punch. Murray manages to summarize various approaches to depression in Christian circles and he argues for a balanced approach that pursues humility and rejects dogmatism. I tend to agree.

After pleading for humility in the midst of complexity Murray begins to address the condition of depression. He offers a very helpful ten points of false thinking, and also interacts with other symptoms. He then charts out potential causes and finally attempts to offer some help in exploring a cure. His final chapter is also very helpful, as it is directed towards those that minister to and/or live with those that battle depression.

One other thing worthy of mention is Murray's Thought Inventory Questionnaire. Being introduced to this and his ten points of false thinking is certainly worth the cost of the book.

I love Murray's balance and modeled humility in this book. I think this book would certainly be a helpful guide to anyone struggling with depression. I'm not 100% sure that I would go quite as far as Joel Beeke yet. Who says, "If I had a family or church member fighting depression, it is the first book I would hand out." But I have to say that it would certainly be in my top 3.

This book is not meant to be a stand alone or a cure all for someone struggling with depression. But I think if a depressed person read this book they would be put on the right track at least. It's also a helpful corrective and addition to the library of any pastor.

I would heartily recommend this book.

Overcoming Depression 101

David Murray admits that his book is not an exhaustive treatment on the subject of depression, but to be seen as an introduction to depression. If it were a class it would be Depression 101.

As a pastor and life coach I have helped people with depression, and have personally battled depression my whole life. One of the things I really like about this book, is that it is short, sweet, and to the point. People who are battling depression don't feel like reading a long treatise on depression.

In six short chapters Murray carefully and concisely writes about the (1) Crisis, (2) Complexity, (3) Condition, (4) Causes, (5) Cures, and those who (6) Care for those who are depressed. In each chapter Murray writes in a balanced manner, avoids extremes, and gives good sound biblical advice, ways to identify causes and cures of depression, through the practical use of various illustrations, examples, and solutions to help in the battle with depression.

I think one of the most helpful Chapters is Chapter 5 were he gives the 5 Keys to developing a balanced lifestyle in reducing the stress and anxiety that often leads to depression: Routine, Relaxation, Recreation, Rest, and Reprioritization. I recommend this book for those who struggle with depression, and to understand those you care for who battle with depression. It is clear, concise, and communicates well the essence of where depression comes from, how to deal with it, and where to find hope for overcoming depression.

For those who need help.

Christians Get Depressed Too by David P. Murry is a wonderful book for those suffering with depression or those who know someone who is. Pastor Murry has done a wonderful and thoughtful investigation into the difficult subject of depression. He comes at depression from a well balanced biblical perspective allowing for causes which could stem from heart, body or soul.

In six chapters he discusses why we get depressed, how to study the topic of depression, what depression is and then covers different methods to deal with depression. He discusses the physical, spiritual, mental approaches which have been taken up in the past and explains the strength and weaknesses of each. In his last chapter he address caregivers (spouses, pastors, friends) and gives timely advise on how we can help those dealing with depression. This is a great resource and I am glad to have this book on my shelf.

Drawing on an eight-year survey of 825 black and white female managers, and juxtaposing the stories of seven black and seven white women executives at some of the most prestigious companies in America, this book illustrates the profound impact of "early life lessons" on women's professional identities and "reveals the power of geography and social location when combined with race." Foregrounding "the first generation of [black women] to hold managerial or executive positions" (many took their first jobs in the 1970s), the authors show that "the combined effects of race and gender create not only very different organizational identities and career experiences, but also very separate paths to the doors of corporate America." Bell and Nkomo (business professors at Dartmouth College and South Africa's UNISA Graduate School of Business Leadership, respectively) are particularly adept at delineating the prejudices that create special problems for black women in the executive suite, without losing sight of the experiences they share with white women. They conclude that while there are crucial differences in the experiences of white and black female executives, the similarities suggest the enduring power of gender discrimination in the workplace and "the extent to which managerial careers are steeped in patriarchal ideology." An epilogue "offers suggestions on how to begin the sometimes difficult dialogue between black and white women executives. Bell and Nkomo have provided a well-researched and thought-provoking look at some important aspects of race and gender in corporate America.

"Our separate ways" is usually used in reference to a point of departure, but here it describes the quite different paths black and white female managers have followed to achieve success. Bell and Nkomo have been tracking the relationships among race and gender and advancement for more than 10 years. They discuss the results of their research, which included extensive life history interviews with 80 black women and 40 white women and in-depth surveys of 825 black and white women managers. Because "black women executives remain a mystery to others in their organizations," Bell and Nkomo focus on the individual stories and personal experiences of 14 women. These poignant narratives highlight six "significant flashpoints" in the women's journeys: breaking into management, adjusting to the corporate environment, encountering barriers, overcoming barriers, making change in the work environment, and coming to terms with personal life choices. Bell and Nkomo also consider the way black and white women managers view themselves and their female colleagues. David Rouse

At the Sharp End

Bell and Nkomo dive straight to the heart of the matter. They base their findings on comprehensive personal interviews of African-American and white women working as managers or executives. Ultimately, the authors hit the reader over the head with the obvious: People from strikingly different backgrounds bring profound personal differences to the workplace. Too often, organizations stupidly attempt homogenizing everyone into minor variations on the existing (typically---older, white, and male) leadership theme. Unusually (Bell and Nkomo cited no such cases), organizations may wisely embrace the differences so that the organization and its people benefit from a more perceptive and inclusive world view.
Folks who need not spend their working hours "fitting in" contribute (A) more (B) less to the organization. Leaders who accept their people for who and what they are get (A) more (B) less from their subordinates. Guess where the authors suggest the readers take their outfits.

Imagining and working with the Other

If you are wondering why the Black woman in your section of your company doesn't seem to want to socialize with you or seems guarded around her White co-workers or why the White women in your organization get all riled up about sexism but are silent when it comes to racism this is the book for you. I recommend this book along with Divided Sisters for those who really want Black and White women to unite in the workplace. These two tomes will give you more than a clue. They'll give you guidelines as how to build a truly "diverse" workplace where everyone is welcomed AS THEY ARE and not as stereotypes others want them to play out. If you are a Black woman, you'll understand why you see your work status merely as a "job" and not as a career and why you feel so much like an outsider looking in at your organization.
The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is that I wanted more in-depth analysis of how the White female managers confronted the idea of Black women as equals (and not just on the job), something I've experienced that White women have a difficult time doing in the workplace.
