entertaining Lunghi cozy

In Bath, the residents of Walcot Street hoist their annual Nation Day festival in which the locals declare The Republic of Wolcott independent from Great Britain. Angelo Lunghi goes to meet a client wanting to hire his family detective agency. Angelo's Mama hopes her single spinster daughter Rosetta meets a keeper man while serving on the party's organizing committee. She also worries about her unmarried son Salvatore, who has opted out of the family. Angelo's teenage daughter Marie accompanied by her BFF Cassie secretly goes to meet Jason.

However, the festivities are interrupted by the finding of a corpse connected to new neighbor Azaria Daniels. Marie becomes a near victim of a predator and Rosetta has two men interested in her. Finally the mystery of Salvatore begins to clear up as the Lunghi family led by their septuagenarian matriarch and patriarch investigate.

The third entertaining Lunghi cozy (see Family Business and Family Planning) is a wonderful tale. The ensemble cast is a delight, the food overwhelming and the myriad of subplots nicely juggled before deftly being tied together. Readers will want more tales from the family who detects together stays together though Salvatore and Rosetta seek independence.

Lunghi Love

This is the third entry in Michael Lewin's mystery novels about the Lunghis of Bath. Like all of Mr. Lewin's books, this one keeps the reader wondering "Just where is this going?" This one is perhaps more about the various Lunghis' love lives than the mystery plot, but it has a mystery to be solved, and the delightful characters keep things moving briskly. I recommend reading the first two "Family..." books before this one, but a new reader will catch on to who's who pretty quickly. I also recommend Mr. Lewin's Albert Sampson books for somewhat more conventional mystery novels.

I have read many books on the Fivefold apostolic. This one is my favorite. It is clear. Easy to read. And full of good identifiers and information in general about the ministry of those called as apostles.

The best apostolic roadmap to those called to this office

This book was exactly what I needed. When I flip the pages, it was as if this person knew my whole life and I only regret I didn't find this resource sooner. An apostolic training is not a piece of cake and those call ed to this office need a road map from someone who know what she is talking about. This is a really anointed book. This book change the course of. Y training and brought me out of confusion and discouragement. The information in here will help you shorten your training time. Unlike other apostolic book out there, this one gives clear step by step direction and road, give you signs of apostolic call, what a real apostle is and what the function looks like, what the calling will require from you, what the process look like, and things you will face, what God expects from you and clear up any confusion you may have about this calling. This is THE BEST apostolic book I have ever come across. This book is just the beginning. This author has more indepth books on this subject and the different kinds of apostle but this is a good start for those who seek to understand this office calling.

Sten E. Vesterli

Sten E. Vesterli picked up Oracle development as his first job after graduating from the Technical University of Denmark, and he hasn't looked back since. He has worked with almost every development tool and server Oracle has produced in the last two decades, including Oracle ADF, JDeveloper, WebLogic, SQL Developer, Oracle Portal, BPEL, Collaboration Suite, Designer, Forms, Reports, and even Oracle Power Objects.

Book Review: Developing Web Applications with Oracle ADF Essentials

At the end of book, the author has claimed that:

"If you have followed the exercises in this book, you are ready to build real-world ADF Essentials applications and can consider yourself an ADF Essentials journeyman."

I cannot agree more. If you are new to ADF (Oracle Application Development Framework) programming, you probably need to add this cookbook to your toolbox.

In this book, it shows you:
* How to set up the entire infrastructure for building ADF applications
* How to install the necessary interconnections and wired everything together
* How to add Java code to your application to implement customized business logic
* How to build and deploy ADF applications to application servers
* How to debug ADF applications
* How to build scalable structure using foundation workspaces and ADF libraries
* How to secure ADF application (Apache Shiro is used in this book)

Without doubt, you will be able to write real-world ADF applications after reading this book. But, before you roll up sleeves and jump to the programming, try to read the following guidelines first:

Sten Vesterli is one of the ADF Gurus who contributed to ADF community a lot. He is frequent presenter at global Oracle conferences like Oracle Open World, ODTUG Kscope, IOUG Collaborate and I have always enjoyed his style of presenting and writing. This book is 2nd book by Sten on ADF you can reach him on his website [...] and Twitter [...]

Introduction:
The book is focused on the FREE version of Oracle ADF called 'ADF Essentials' it contains 8 chapters and about 270 pages.

The book takes an example of building a small application and covers a most of the life cycle of ADF Essentials development. The key highlight for me the author is using MySQL database, Glassfish server and Apache Shiro for security. (Security is not part of ADF Essentials license which requires you to work with open source security solutions).

Chapter wise Review
Chapter 1: My First ADF Essentials Application
First chapter will provide you step by step detail how to install and configure MySQL database, Glassfish server and setting up your development environment in JDeveloper. By end of this chapter you will be able to run a basic page developed in JDeveloper, deployed on Glassfish server using MySQL database.
Chapter 2: Creating Business Services
Second chapter is about working with a Model layer of ADF essentials. The business services as name suggest about setting up back end data model for your application. The author covered quite details about Entity objects, View Objects, View links, Associations and Application Module within a context of example application. There are few best practices tips as well and some bugs fixing tricks.
Chapter 3: Creating Task Flows and Pages
Third chapter takes you to more interesting part of working with ADF essentials which is View Controller layer. View layer is where you develop pages and control the flow of your application. The final chapter of the book talked about how to build and deploy your application using Apache Ant and other tools and what you need to know if order to deploy ADF applications successfully.

I think this book provides a very good overview of what you can do with ADF essentials what are limitations and how to overcome on it. This details not only valid for ADF essentials but also works with full version of ADF.

Free Development With ADF Essentials!

This book covers the Oracle ADF Essentials Application Development Framework - a free Java EE based web development framework (which can be used with Eclipse or JDeveloper) aimed at building data-handling applications. This book does not cover or include ADF Mobile Development which is not currently available in ADF Essentials.
As with Stens other book -Oracle ADF Application Development Made Simple- this text approaches ADF from a slightly different angle than most of the other ADF books on the market.

His first book was very good from the perspective of Tech Leads/Project Managers covering subjects such as how to structure your team, Application Architecture, Support Tools for your Project, Planning your Project and many other subjects not really touched in the other ADF books that are out there.

This book is also very different from the majority of other ADF texts that are out there in that it does not focus on ADF Development for the licensed Weblogic Server using an Oracle Database, but covers developing ADF Applications for free - using the Free Glassfish Server, using ADF Essentials, using the free JDeveloper tool and the free MYSQL Database - covering ADF and these tools is an area where there is a real niche requirement.

As with Stens other work I find this text very thorough as it "holds your hand" all the way through from the development of a sample application, from the installation of the development tools, creating the business model services, building up you application flow and pages, including business rules and logic, how to architect a bigger application and the concept of libraries and then on to debugging your application, securing your application and including build and deployment.

I like this book because I found it very honest in that it covers all the above subjects "warts and all" but also gives you the "ointment" to apply to ease these pains. Certainly there are some challenges to developing with the free ADF Essentials version of ADF as opposed to the licensed use - for a start you cannot use the ADF Security Layer in Essentials. However this book guides you in these areas and shows you how to implement security using Apache Shiro (previously JSecurity).

I would recommend this book for any developer wanting to learn how to develop with the ADF Framework. Particularly because ADF Essentials is cut down somewhat from the full licensed ADF which means that some features that developers take for granted in the full version are not available in Essentials. This means a little bit more of a challenge for the developer to work around but in doing so, I feel it gives the developer a bit more of an understanding on what is going and how the framework works.

About the Author

Trevor A. Harley is Dean of Psychology and Chair of Cognitive Psychology at the University of Dundee, Scotland. He was an undergraduate at the University of Cambridge, where he was also a PhD student, completing a thesis on slips of the tongue and what they tell us about speech production. He moved to Dundee from the University of Warwick in 1996. His research interests include speech production, how we represent meaning, and the effects of aging on language.

will probably upset some linguists

This book appears to be better than it is. One reason our professor had selected it was the use of graphics and such- it looked to be far more engaging than most similar texts. And I will admit, it was more engaging, the stories it added were good and the design of the pages was very well done. However, it was clearly written by a psychologist, not a linguist, there were quite a few mistakes, as well as many waaaay over simplifications. Anyone who has taken at least than an introduction to linguistics could pick out bunches of mistakes, and I'm quite sure my professor was making a list to send to the publisher. There were numerous typos and grammar mistakes, too. I use it from time to time to get an example of a point or check something quickly, but overall it was quite a disappointment.

overall, pretty good

It covers a lot of topics quickly and includes brief overviews of experiments done by many different researchers. It's well written, but sometimes a little dense. There's a lot of material compacted into each chapter, which can make some concepts a little difficult to understand. Overall, it explained the material well and was interesting as well.

Important New Historical Discoveries

I admire Chiasson's writing and find his take on these ruins very convincing. I had never heard of the idea that Chinese settled Cape Breton and Nova Scotia before the Europeans did. I think he has done a very thorough analysis of this subject and is willing to go in courageous new directions in Canadian history. Of course he finds a lot of opposition, this always happens when controversial new evidence emerges. He sticks to the facts he has come upon and doesn't expand on all the possibilities these new developments imply. I wish he did a little more of that. This book focuses on one little town and the ruins he comes across are not remarkably interesting, certainly not something like Stonehenge, but the fact that he proves they are pre-European is the fascinating part. My only problem with the book is he is making a whole book out of a somewhat dry story about this one little area. To accomplish this he bring in other controversies about who else may have appeared in Nova Scotia and how early. His attention to details, while demonstrating thorough research can be a little more than I really desire to read about. I certainly hope Mr. Chiasson writes more books about this subject, I believe there are many more ruins to find and the implications of his writing will upset the whole colonial settlement applecart in eastern Canada.

After having read and thoroughly enjoyed Chiasson’s first book, The Island of Seven Cities, I looked forward to finding out more about his theory that the Chinese possibly settled in Canada before Columbus set sail for America. I was not let down. Written in the Ruins provides tales of explorers, maps, legends and archeology. Chiasson resurrects the stories of people from the distant past and explains their influence in shaping history that most of us never question. Chiasson offers compelling and detailed research. He raises questions without demanding that the reader agree with his theory. Rather, the reader is encouraged to synthesize the evidence and draw our own conclusions. In the end I was left with no doubt that a Chinese fleet came to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and settled the island well before any European set foot on North American soil. Written in the Ruins is a wonderful read for anyone. It will be of particular interest to those who are intrigued by world history, how that history gets told and what is left unsaid until someone like Chiasson bravely steps forward.
